The UNO St. Claude Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming MFA Thesis exhibition featuring the work of artist Sylvia Santamaria.
May 11th - June 2nd, 2019.
Opening reception May 11th from 6-9 p.m.
Specimen presents Santamaria’s versions of natural specimens primarily based upon the visual unity of disparate organisms. Through sculpture, drawings, and prints, the artist channels influences ranging from nineteenth century naturalists to contemporary science fiction in order to consider the perceived hierarchy of surrounding lifeforms. Her specimens are hybrids of biological and biomorphic elements comprised of artificial and organic materials, blurring the boundaries between botanical, animal, fungal, metal, and mineral.
Regular gallery hours are 12-5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, through
he run of the exhibition. Please contact Tony Campbell at apcampbe@uno.edu with questions, or call the gallery at 504.948.6939 during open hours.
