Blind Spot: A Thesis Exhibition by Paige DeVries

A Room With a View, 2023, Oil on Canvas,  11”x 14”

The U.N.O. Gallery is pleased to present Paige DeVries’ M.F.A. thesis exhibition titled Blind Spot. Her paintings and photography discuss ideas of the sublime in the suburban, urban landscape. The work demonstrates how domestic spaces, like the exterior of a home or yard are intimate portraits of humanity and the environment. The paintings and photographs use unconventional color and intimate imagery to blur the line between the banal and the provocative in our New Orleans neighborhoods.

The exhibition will be open from April 13th through May 4th, 2024, with an opening reception on Saturday, April 13th, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. From 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm there will be an artist talk describing the work and influences along with a gallery walkthrough. Live music and refreshments to follow. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00–5:00 p.m. The exhibition and all related events are free and open to the public.

Paige DeVries currently lives in New Orleans. She will be earning an MFA from the University of New Orleans in May 2024. She is a current artist-in-residence at the New Orleans Museum of Art and upcoming resident at the Joan Mitchell Center. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings and shown at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art and Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans. DeVries has an upcoming solo exhibition at Good Children Gallery in July, 2025 where she is a gallery member.
